In French, the "H" in Hubart is not really pronounced, so it became a "U" in the logo, and a diagonal slash is called une barre in French. Hence, "U bar (diagonal slash)."

This family name logo has been invented by my grandfather, they put a U with a barre on all the containers with his belongings that where going to be shipped towards Africa.
