My name is Michel Hubart,
a multidisciplinary artist from Mechelen, Belgium,
driven by a passion for recycling and upcycling art.
Born in 1980, graduated in Fine Arts from K.S.O. Sint-Lucas Brussels.
Working with discarded materials and broken objects found on the street or in nature, these elements are transformed into upcycled creations. Worn-out
items gain a new purpose or evolve into recycled sculptures shaped as animals, insects, or human figures.
Why recycle art?
Through my work, I aim to raise awareness that not everything needs to end up in a landfill, and that even something broken or seemingly unattractive can
be transformed into something beautiful.
inviting people to see things from a new perspective.
To think outside the box, or better yet:
there is a box… let’s do something with it.
Alongside personal creations, great fulfillment comes from upcycling clients’ sentimental belongings. These are transformed into meaningful artworks or functional objects, brought back to life and given new value.
My assembly method is essential to this series of recycled sculptures.Instead of welding or soldering, each component is carefully secured mechanically, with glue used only as an absolute last resort when no other solution is possible.
I firmly believe that it is precisely this thoughtful assembly process that allows my sculptures to truly be experienced as works of art.
Additionally, each sculpture incorporates one or more objects carrying a negative or positive emotional charge from the past. Through this integration,
personal history is transformed into something positive, or into a reminder of a beautiful and magical moment, a special place, or a meaningful encounter.
My working method not only creates a remarkably unique visual end result, but also gives my sculptures their robot-like character. That’s why each Trash-Robot is numbered in binary code, in the order of creation.
Because my work relies on found materials and broken objects, duplicate components are rare.. This means that none of my sculptures can ever be reproduced,
not even by myself. Each piece is, without exception,
a one-of-a-kind work, une piece unique (1/1).
